I keep feeling like everyone wants to "be relevant" and in doing so becomes carbon copies of one another. I feel like I'm just scratching around for content and being a little chicken to write about the things I really want to write about because what if, again, it just looks like I'm trying to be all relevant and am not... even with my heart on my sleeve? At east in failing, though, I can know what I wrote was honest and heartfelt, which is better than some lame carbon copy of someone else's work.

Oh, and you said "I guarantee you that in my lifetime I will never be an inventor of anything." but I beg to differ, looky looky... http://avoidingatrophy.blogspot.com/2015/02/slightly-irreverent-valentines-day.html
That's some serious inventing, my friend! :)Joy Lynnhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00145712554714269466noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-928598130851835729.post-23565053294582451302013-12-17T09:13:31.683-05:002013-12-17T09:13:31.683-05:00Aww, thank you! :)Aww, thank you! :)sfbhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01513093265832805895noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-928598130851835729.post-41393146633927713272013-12-14T12:48:14.997-05:002013-12-14T12:48:14.997-05:00So glad I am not alone in this!So glad I am not alone in this!Christyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03769320673829584188noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-928598130851835729.post-22997368257181056842013-12-14T12:47:57.338-05:002013-12-14T12:47:57.338-05:00Simone, thank you so much for your honesty here! F...Simone, thank you so much for your honesty here! For the record, I find myself asking the "what if no one likes me" question a lot. I have found that if you are not in a particularly glamorous season of life, the good stuff of writing really comes through in your voice. Just from reading your comment, it is clear that you are a woman with a lot of voice, and I would totally encourage you to get that blog going. You've already got at least one reader!Christyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03769320673829584188noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-928598130851835729.post-28971582678178697302013-12-14T12:44:19.602-05:002013-12-14T12:44:19.602-05:00Glad it struck a chord with you, and even happier ...Glad it struck a chord with you, and even happier to know that I'm not alone!Christyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03769320673829584188noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-928598130851835729.post-29739222970276813742013-12-14T12:43:55.772-05:002013-12-14T12:43:55.772-05:00For the record, I am getting my fill of Much to My...For the record, I am getting my fill of Much to My Delight on the reg, and I absolutely love it! Seriously, keep it up. I really appreciate this thoughtful comment, and I especially like the idea of being a writer first and a blogger second. I often go back and forth between the two whenever someone asks me what I do, but I feel like to be a good blogger you must first be an authentic writer. I have been thinking about this a lot lately.

I blogged on and off all through college (even for the college blog in my senior year!). I guest blog a few places occasionally. But I've taken a break from my own blog, largely because I feel like I'm not witty or dorky or clever, and that no one will want to read about what I have to say. (For that matter, what DO I have to say? I can only write so much about being an insecure/uncertain 23-year-old trying to figure out life...)

I've been pulling together plans for a revamped, post-college-me blog, but I keep stalling by saying I want to learn Adobe illustrator so I can make my own blog header. While that's true, I wonder how much of that is me just thinking, "But what if no one likes me?"

Anyway, thanks for sharing! I love your writing voice and it's nice to know I'm not alone. :)sfbhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01513093265832805895noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-928598130851835729.post-69494196369924803332013-12-11T16:02:57.280-05:002013-12-11T16:02:57.280-05:00I loved this. When I started blogging I found myself comparing my posts to everyone else's because I was blogging about food and everyone else looked like a pro compared to my novice recipes and pictures. I've never had a big readership, and I think it's because I've had a hard time fitting neatly into one of the major niches. I no longer try to fit into the categories or the styles of other blogs, not just because I'd like to stay true to my own voice, but because I am a little older than the average blogger (i'm in my mid-30s, which is like 92 in blogger years:) and I want my content to reflect that. Anyway-- I'm with you on the prompts. I always need help generating new ideas! Thanks for the honest peek into the mind of a blogger who's a writer first, blogger second. jenn from much to my delighthttp://muchtomydelight.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-928598130851835729.post-57242207388211025822013-12-10T16:44:35.574-05:002013-12-10T16:44:35.574-05:00I'm finding the same challenge. Not because I forget about it, but because I don't have anything that I feel needs to be said. I think this is a great reminder that what you blog is an extension of you and sometimes the only way people know you. So, why would you want people to get a fake impression of who you are?Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
